Such a fascinating world we are heading into. As business heavyweights scoop up these young upstarts it'll be really interesting to see whether the original ethos of these companies stays intact.

I think you said it the other day, Peter. Did the 80 million or so MySpace users sign up for a News International service or something that was fresh, innovative and arguably enabled them to rail against the traditional media machine? Do they care?

Will they jump ship as News International seek to squeeze maximum value from them? How long does the business model hold if the new kid on the block starts stealing their user base?

The other interesting element here is the pace of competition in these markets.

YouTube was conceived in Feb 2005 (I think) and now has over 100 direct, feature comparative competitors.

Some of these are growing faster than YouTube, particularly those that focus on content for older Internet users.
